With the launch of the Windows 8 Release Preview at the very start of this month, NVIDIA initially promised that they would have Windows 8 WHQL’d display drivers available the following week. That week came and went (and then some), but better late than never, NVIDIA has finally posted their Win8 WHQL drivers.

The drivers are version 302.82, and support NVIDIA’s entire product line from the GeForce 6 series and on. The notable change here is the addition of official Windows 8 support, primarily in the form of WDDM 1.2 support for the 400 series and later, but also includes a number of more minor changes to bring their drivers in alignment with the best practices for Windows 8.

Note that these are older than the latest 304.42 betas for Windows Vista/7, and we aren’t expecting regular Win8 driver updates until Win8 finally goes RTM in the next month or so.

It might be a little confusing to mention the "series 6 and on", and then later mention WDDM 1.2 support for "the 400 series and later". Had to re-read the paragraph twice to sort out that "series 6 and on" refers to the ancient 6600, 6800 etc. My first reaction was kinda "WTF, what about my (not brand new but quite recent) GTX580?" =/

Ancient in computer terms, but not that long ago. I remember when the Geforce 2 GTS was the new kid on the block. Before that you wanted a Voodoo 3 ;)

I believe the first AT review I ever read was for the GeForce 256 DDR. A friend of mine turned me on to it and I've been a believer ever since!

Turned me on to AT, that is... and I'm still turned on.

I'm really surprised to see windows 8 support for geforce 6 and 7. Thought windows 7 drivers would be the last for those old dogs.

nVidia's always been pretty good about pushing out support for its older video cards in new OS's. Motherboards... not as much.

I bet nVidia is really happy with that big blank "ad" in between the two amd pics on the GPU tab to get here.
I have never seen that here before. I guess nVidia really, really, is in the doghouse now.

On an up note all the amd fan boys should be gleeful, despite the fact that amd abandons gamers in the driver department.
