When we reviewed Motorola's Xoom, all that was available was the $799 3G version. Since then Motorola has released a more affordable $599 WiFi only edition with 32GB of NAND on board. Inside the Xoom, as you're all familiar with is NVIDIA's Tegra 2 SoC. Tegra 2 was Google's reference SoC for the Honeycomb release of Android, and thus it's been the heart and soul of all recently announced Honeycomb tablets.

NVIDIA, eager to parade its success with Tegra 2, shipped me a box containing four WiFi Motorola Xooms to give away to our most loyal readers. Here's a shot of the four:

Now the plan: we'll be giving one away every two days until we're out of WiFi Xooms. Sound good?

To enter the contest simply respond to this post with comment explaining something you'd like to see in the next-generation of tablets or SoCs (please only respond once). Good luck!

Now the rules. This contest is unfortunately only available to US residents in one of the 50 states. I realize that AnandTech is an international site and I do highly value all of our readers, unfortunately extending the contest rules outside of the US is a bit more than we're able to reliably handle today. That's not to say that we won't at some point in the future, we just have little experience doing such things and don't want to get burned early on.

Secondly, you are only allowed to enter once.

Entries will be accepted from 7:35 PM ET on April 15, 2011 through 7:35 PM ET on April 17, 2011. Winner will be selected by April 18, 2011.

Good luck everyone :)

I would like to see pen input in the next tablet!

I know, I'm not eligible, but forget pen input -- I want tablets that can read my brain waves and do what I'm thinking about. LOL. Voice input that doesn't suck would also be nice, but impractical because of noise environments.

How about: better batteries, better performance, better networking support (like 150Mb connections actually coming close to that figure), better displays, better build quality, and lower prices. More apps that I'm interested in would also be good -- I'm about at my limit for Angry Birds. :-)

I want a tablet with a touch surface on the back, so I can use the touch without obstructing my views with my fingers. User can switch that feature on and off. That feature will help game developers a lot too because they can assign more complex gestures to their games.

    thats a nifty idear!
  • buzznut - Monday, April 18, 2011 - link

That is a great idea. I was also thinking along the lines of interface controls, especially for games. I dunno, can you plug a playstation controller into one of these things? Because that would be good.
How about some more compelling apps like say a full rpg like Elder Scrolls III? Maybe FEAR for tablets?

About your PS controller, my guess is you could probably find a bluetooth controller if you really wanted to.

About the apps, anything too computationally expensive would involve plugging in the unit. Keeping the proc running at ~100% might cause the device to overheat and create more of the fires/explosions that Apple saw in first/second generation phones.

I still want my pen input, but I want it with a transreflective switchable screen... I'd love to finally have a good digital notebook that I could carry in the field or take notes and not have to type everything out. Voice input is useless when I'm in public (I don't want to be seen talking to myself, or tablet) and brain wave input is a pipe dream at this point ;).

I'd also settle for much better battery life, but that's partly why I want the transreflective screen ...

Yeah, my list is the following.

1 security issues I want to see two factor authentication and passphrase/token support as well as a full encryption option
    2. multiboot support for when windows 8/linux runs runs on arm
    3. larger capacity drives 256g+ or dual drives where you have a standard hdd and a os ssd drive.
    4. 8-10 hours heavy use battery life
    5. if you have 3g/4g support why not add phone capability with an optional phone plan
    6. pen input is also a must with a decent level of sensitivity- about entry level wacom
    7. a good amount of inputs and outputs ie usb 3.0, hdmi, bluetooth at a minimum built in.
