Gigabyte Enters Memory Market with AORUS RGB LED RAM

GIGABYTE is entering the desktop memory market with a new kit of AORUS-branded RGB LED RAM. The AORUS RGB LED memory is a dual-channel 16GB (2 x 8GB) kit of DDR4-3200 with a CAS latency of 16-18-18-38 running at 1.35V. Memory compatibility is listed as cross-platform with Intel X299, Z200/Z300 as well as AMD X399 and all AM4.
GIGABYTE said it plans to ship the kit with two “dummy” sticks that don’t contain any memory chips, which are meant to fill your unoccupied DIMM slots for a uniformed RGB LED look without having to purchase a 4-DIMM kit. GIGABYTE also said the dummy modules are compatible with its RGB Fusion software (the same as the real memory modules), but it didn’t state whether or not the dummies will work with other motherboard RGB software. Additionally, the Fusion software features five new lighting modes that can be applied to compatible products, including the new RAM.
GIGABYTE’s entry into the memory marketplace is a bold move for the company at a time when supply chains seem to be waning. DRAM shortages have been affecting pricing for memory and graphics cards for months, and it’s surprising (if not somewhat suspicious) that GIGABYTE was able to tap a manufacturer for Samsung b-die ICs.
The new Aorus RGB LED DDR4-3200 memory kit is set to arrive at the end of June with an MSRP of $229.

Great idea to have dummy RGB dimms. Having only two RGB dimms looks really dumb and having 4 real dimms is really expensive (I don't think they make RGB 4GB modules).Dragonstongue - Monday, June 4, 2018 - link
that is a good idea, not overly fond of everyone doing RGB and glass everywhere as far as the eye can see (likely influencing $$$$$$ they want to sell it for)for memory especially seeing as the memory chips from the makers are that much more expensive now no need to increase BOM that much higher with loading with RGB crud.
good move on Gigabyte being "smart about it" and only doing 2 sticks with the RGB the other 2 are "dummies" if they were really smart about it, they would have maybe had the RGB bar able to be moved to any stick or something like that (just in case for whatever reason the 2 sticks do not function as intended and the other 2 do ^.^...
lord knows is extra pricey to send them all the way overseas for a potential RMA because lets face it, nothing is perfect in this world, with tech it seems a 50/50 often enough, I myself have never bough many companies tech stuff for the reason they do not have in Canada RMA centers which sucks a big lemon O.o

LEDs cost practically nothing to make, and they are pathetic and greedy excuses to jack up prices. The Cryorig H5 and G502 mouse with LEDs are suddenly now from 20 to 50% more expensive than the non-LED versions which are already stealthily discontinued. Because, of course, you MUST spend more money on the more expensive items that have RGB. There's literally no options out there without RGB, and you are being forced to empty your wallet into the GREEDY hands of the manufacturers and vendors. They show up at your door and enter your credit card number on Amazon and NewEgg and buy every RGB item on the site, leaving you with no money...Oh, wait. That's right. You have the option of voting with your wallet. Because it's your money and no one can control the choices you make, you can show the manufacturers you don't want to see more RGB by buying things without RGB. Incredible. It's almost as though the world doesn't revolve around you, and there's a lot of people in the world, including myself, that like the customization options the RGB LEDs bring to the table, and since we make enough money to buy what we want we're willing to spend that money buying the more expensive options available to us. Man, it's a mind blowing concept.
Oh, but by all means, feel free to spend your time typing away on article posts telling everyone how upset you are. Yay!

I personally cant stand the glass or RGB and would gladly prefer a cheaper option that doesnt have it. The PC-011 Dynamic case is ALMOST perfect, I just dont want the glass or anything flashy as it lives in a cabinet that no one see and all the RGB is turned OFF.

If it lives in a cabinet, that's what's the issue? You're not seeing it anyway. I swear, people on here just like being grumpy old whiners. There are plenty of other cases as well. Lian-Li has a history of nice, non-flashy cases. And if you don't use anything RGB, you don't see any light anyway. If it's in a cabinet far away from your sensitive emotional eyes, then there's no issue either.
