With AMD's B550 models now on the shelves, a lot of focus around its launch was based on pricing - or rather the lack of very low-cost entry-level models.

The motherboard manufacturer Colorful has today unveiled two new micro-ATX sized B550 motherboards: the  CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14 and B550M Gaming Pro V14 models. Some of the primary features include a Realtek ALC892 HD audio codec, two PCIe M.2 slots with one Gen4 and one Gen3 slot, as well as a Realtek Gigabit Ethernet controller.

The most striking of the new pair from Colorful is the CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14 model. It features a very aesthetically pleasing white and silver color scheme, with Naval inspired CVN aircraft carrier class branding and an actively cooled chipset heatsink with a red ring around the fan for contrast.

Although the Colorful CVN B550M Gaming Pro 14V follows a black and silver aesthetic, both models share the same feature set, with a full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, a full-length PCIe 3.0 x4 slot, and a small PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. For storage, both models include a single PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slot, and a secondary PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot, with four SATA ports that includes support for RAID 0, 1, and 10 arrays. Each model also includes four memory slots with support for up to DDR4-4000, with a maximum capacity of up to 128 GB. Colorful is also advertising a 10-phase power delivery on both boards but doesn't go into detail in regards to the componentry or design.

Neither model includes any USB 3.2 G2 connectivity, but there are three USB 3.2 G1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 G1 Type-C, and two USB 2.0 ports. Also present is a pair of video outputs including HDMI and DisplayPort, with six 3.5 mm audio jacks powered by a Realtek ALC892 HD audio codec. For networking is a single Ethernet port which is powered by a Realtek 8111H Gigabit controller, with a PS/2 combo port which finishes off the pairings rear panels.

The cool-looking Colorful CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14 has an MSRP of $126, while the black and grey B550M Gaming Pro V14 comes with a slightly cheaper MSRP of $121. Although Colorful hasn't divulged when or where these models will be available, they are likely to hit stockists of Colorful motherboards in the coming month.

10 year lifespan? By then we will have jetpacks and fusion power - and maybe a few advancements in computers as well.

What is wrong with passive A-to-C adapters?

Finally! Nice to see some cheaper B550 mobos coming out. Hopefully the larger companies are just following the strategy of hoovering up the cash of early adopters by only releasing high end models before announcing / releasing their cheaper B550 models later in the year.

"a lot of focus around its launch was based on pricing - or rather the lack of very low-cost entry-level models"

    I'll take reasonably-priced for 100, Alex.

Come on, guys. It's white - well, the CVN Frozen V14 - and it's mATX! What's not to like? I thought I might be forced into an ASRock Steel Legend to get some color out of the B550Ms that seem to all subscribe to Henry Ford's "you can have any colr you like as long as it's black" philosophy. Long ago I decided mATX was the right size...no more humongous towers for me. And iTX is just plain off my radar. Let's see what Colorful comes up with after it's on the market and properly reviewed. Anyone else think this B550 launch was just disastrous? Nothing is in stock - reviews seem to be just reading off manufacturers' website specs. Not impressed so far.

Anybody got a source for this CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14? Colorful says it's released and and gives me a half dozen (Chinese, Viet and SE Asian) vendors - who either don't have or list it yet - I'd buy one if available 'cuz it's the right color! Yes, I know it's sub $140 and probably just 'usable' - but all I want is MB for a 3600 (maybe a 3700) without OCVing. (NewEgg tells me they review all products and they and their vendors give us what they 'know we want.') Hey - MSI. ASUS, Gigabyte and ASRock - I want a white motherboard for my mATX case! I'd buy the Colorful, if I could find a way to get it! Wake up! It was a purely lousy B550 launch, you guys! Maybe I should just go back to Intel.

It's mid-Aug 2020, Gavin, so wWhy can't I get a white mATX motherboard from Colorful? So I want to upgrade from my current AMD Ryzen 5-2600 to a 3000 CPU for my current mATX build. I want a B550M motherboard in white. (And, yes, I know ASRock has motherboards with some white or silverish panels or heatsink coverings, but they are not white motherboards!) Colorful has recently released a CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14 mATX motherboard with a suggested retail price of US$125, but other than Colorful product announcements last month (July) in anandtech (here!), wccftech, TechPowerUp, back2gaming, and several some other techie-sites, the only place I see this motherboard listed is banggood.com for US$202.69, marked down to $189.99 with $20 new user coupon and $0.98 shipping, but 3 weeks transit...or on aliexpress.com, I found it for $143.86, with $2 discount (new user), $10.69 S&H, and $6.11 to use PayPal, and again 2-3 weeks transit from China. Again the Colorful announcement listed this white (the Frozen) gaming model at $125 and a black, simpler Colorful B550M Gaming Pro for closer to $120. I don't want a rip-off like I see on Banggood's vendors; and the two aliexpress vendors I see are also charging a high premium. I contact Amazon and they won't give me the time of day for a new product request! And the two requests and two comments sent to NewEgg get the same cold shoulder - "We don't carry that product. Thank you for your interest." Doesn't anyone else want a white mATX motherboard? (OK, screed over - y'all take care of yourselves - stay healthy and happy!) :-)
